Spend St. Patrick’s Day in Indy

Indiana has a rich heritage of Irish settlers, many of whom have brought along with them the tastes of their home country. The result is a ton of authentic Irish pubs and restaurants all over the Indianapolis area. Places where fish n’ chips and Guinness are at the top of the menus. With St. Patrick’s Day coming up on March 17, it’s time to look at some of the best Irish bars and restaurants in the city. Lucky for everyone, St. Patrick’s Day falls on a Saturday this year setting up this beloved holiday to be one for the books. Find below a list of the top five Irish bars and restaurants to spend St. Patrick’s Day in Indy. Slainte!

Nine Irish Brothers | Mass Ave
As the name suggests, Nine Irish Brothers is run by a huge Irish family – including five sisters. So as you can imagine, their fare is as traditional as it gets. Guinness stew, corn beef and cabbage, bangers and mash and Irish whiskey pepper steak are all on the menu. Their superb location on Mass Ave makes Nine Irish Brothers the perfect place for downtown dwellers to spend St. Patty’s Day. Alongside having traditional Irish musicians setting the ambiance, they’ll also be packed to the brim with Hoosiers donned in green. To prove Nine Irish Brothers is the real deal, Buzzfeed and Yelp recently named them the The Best Irish Pub in Indiana.

Brockway Public House | Carmel
Carmel’s best place for a pint of Guinness! That’s what Brockway brings to the Northside. In fact, they’re even certified by Guinness themselves to pour the perfect pint. You’ll even find the Arthur Guinness Draft Table where patrons can learn to pour their own Guinness or Harp Lager pint. In sticking with the Irish drinking culture, Brockway offers an extensive whiskey and bourbon selection, even once receiving the Best Bourbon Bar award. They recently brought on a new Executive Chef who debuted his traditional Irish menu in December. His signature dish is the Whiskey Salmon featuring mashed redskin potatoes and fresh asparagus.

Mo’s Irish Pub | Noblesville
This Northside favorite not only boasts great Irish grub and a proper pint, but weekly live music as well. After all, their website claims they’re “Lively and festive anytime of day”. Come March 17, they’ll be hosting an annual St. Patrick’s Day party with live bagpipers! Yes, you read that right. Mo’s will actually have live bagpipers on-site to provide the perfect musical backdrop to celebrate your Irish heritage. Or, at the very least, celebrate your love for green beer and whiskey.

O’Reilly’s Irish Bar | Downtown
Located mere steps from Banker’s Life Fieldhouse and Lucas Oil Stadium, this downtown Irish bar has become a great spot for a shot of Jameson and a pint of Guinness to celebrate a Pacers or Colts win. Not to mention the place in downtown proper for St. Patty’s Day festivities. Right in the heart of the downtown bar scene off Pennsylvania St., O’Reilly’s promises an expertly poured Guinness, football games (the Irish kind) on all TVs and some Irish Pub Chips to top it all off. Check out their new locations in Greenwood, Speedway and Ft. Wayne as well.

The Claddagh Irish Pub & Restaurant | Downtown, Carmel, Plainfield
Even though Claddagh is technically a chain, it’s locations are strictly in the Midwest. And as the title says, Indy is lucky enough to have three locations. Don’t let the fact that this is a chain deter you though, Claddagh is as authentic as it is charming. Looking for a proper Irish fry up breakfast anytime of day? How about some Shepard’s Pie or Bangers and Mash? Well, they have you covered in spades. Come March 17, there’s no better place to feast Irish style.
